My Baby Can Read and Your Baby Can Read Too, If You Follow This Advice

!±8± My Baby Can Read and Your Baby Can Read Too, If You Follow This Advice

I began teaching my baby to read when he was around 3 months old. He loved it and has never known a time when he couldn't read. It was a game we played throughout the day, after a diaper change, or first thing in the morning. I didn't know if he was learning to read, because he couldn't talk yet. Imagine my surprise when at 12 months he read his first word out loud!

That was just the beginning. He began reading words that I would write down on paper, in the sand or on the black board. He would amaze family, friends and even strangers with this skill. The fascinating part of this story is that all babies have this ability. If parents gain a basic understanding of how babies learn to read, their babies will be reading too.

He was never forced to read. He was always given the option of looking at a book or looking at words. If he did not want to, we played a different game.

He had a very long attention span by his first birthday, sometimes wanting to view his reading books by the stack. He loved learning to read and would sometimes view hundreds of words at one time, at his request.

Part of our morning routine was to cuddle and read his reading books. These are precious memories and even if he had not learned to read, I wouldn't trade them for anything. Teaching your baby to read really bonds the two of you together.

In order to teach your baby to read, make sure the words you show your baby are large. You don't want your baby to have to strain to read them. You can use a piece of copy paper to write one word. Use a marker, red or black, and start off with your baby's name, your name and your pet's names.

I used plastic sheet protectors so the paper would be more durable. Just read each word to your baby and move on. By doing this frequently, about 15-20 times per word, your baby is learning to read.

You can move on from there to anything that interests your child. It is so much fun to gently lead your child into the wonderful world of discovering reading.

Top Board Games: All Time Favourite Five

!±8± Top Board Games: All Time Favourite Five

If anybody asked you what the top all time board games were there is a good chance that you would guess at least 3 of them. Even with a multitude of board games competing in the toy stores there are still a select few that everybody has heard of and many of us have played.

Not only kids are fascinated by board games and the intriguing styles, colours, designs and game play, many adults enjoy board games making them a real family activity. The variation in the way these games are played is truly massive. So much imagination has gone into many of the games that they are really unique.

Board games are really games for indoors, but it can be great fun when you find outdoor versions of these games to play. The best can easily compete with video games for fun and entertainment. Some board games have been adapted to be able to be played on computers and gaming consoles, but they can't beat the fun of playing the original games.

Following are the top 5 board games that are popular worldwide. How many of them did you include in your top five?

1. Monopoly

Monopoly has been a strong family favourite and amongst all age groups for decades. The Guinness Book of Records said that Monopoly was the most played game in the world in 1999 and this board game is still top of the buyers list years on and that includes many special editions and variations.

Here are the basic rules: One of the players is named as the banker, that player is in charge of all of the money. Players pick their gaming pieces and at the throw of the dice have to move them around a square board edged with properties. If nobody else owns the property a player lands on that player can buy the property, or if somebody else owns it they have to pay rent to that player.

Amongst the properties there are plots that let you choose cards that may hold good or bad scenarios for you. You can even be sent to jail. and that is one of the properties that will slow you down in your quest to become a property tycoon. The game can take hours to play and the winner is the player with the most property and money at the end.

2. Scrabble

Scrabble is another board game with a massive following. As with Monopoly you will see many variations of this game on the market. There are adult and child versions and the biggest benefit of this game apart from the fun is that you and your kids can improve your spelling and vocabulary whilst playing the game.

To play the game you place letter tiles on a grid to form words connected to each other. The letter tiles have points and the grid has certain multipliers that help toward winning the game with the most points. It can be a contest between people of how powerful their vocabulary is and that builds the more you play.

3. Chess

One of the oldest classics, this game has had a long history and consistent following. Your moves on a chess board are down to a number of rules for each of the pieces but the strategies that can be used to play are numerous and complex. You essentially play your pieces against an opponent and they are either black or white. Your pieces can move towards the opponents and the aim of the game is to take their pieces out. The different pieces have different powers of movement and passing from pawns to queens. Chess involves thinking of possible moves that can be made and planning ahead and is a very intellectual pursuit. A good game will probably last for hours if each player is proficient.

4. Checkers or Draughts

Using the same or similar to the chess board but with simpler pieces and movement. The pieces can jump over and take the opponents pieces and the winner is the person left with a piece on the board. This game will end in a stalemate if both players are good and do not make any mistakes. A big following and a simple game to master this is a popular family game that often helps children learn to strategize.

5. Trivial Pursuit

The youngest of the most popular board games, it was created in 1979. Trivial Pursuit caught on really quickly and has remained a firm favourite. Essentially testing your ability to answer general knowledge questions on a range of subjects this board game is an active and a social one.

This is a great game for parties and can be played by several single players or several teams. Educationally, Trivial Pursuit can help to increase your general knowledge and if you have a good memory for facts it could be a good game for you to excel at apart from being fun.

Loopz - Is It The Best Memory Game?

!±8± Loopz - Is It The Best Memory Game?

Created by Mattel and brought to the market in July 2010, Loopz is a fresh new game that offers plenty of fun and exciting entertainment for the entire family. At around 2 feet tall, Loopz features sensor technology which picks up your hands' movements while they move through any of the 4 semi-circular rings, or in other words, "loopz". There's simply a little something amazing when you're able to to direct the action in this game by moving the hands outside and inside of the loopz. This certainly does set it apart from other games and makes it fun to try out Loopz.

Loopz game combines music, memory and motion to test your reflexes along with rhythm by encouraging you to duplicate the game's diverse lights and music tunes. Loopz is really an action and music oriented game that seriously can get anybody moving. At the first glance this interactive unit offers 4 semi-circular rings. The loopz displays ever changing varieties of lights and music tunes which constantly get faster. You as the player will try to emulate the patterns by waving your hands inside and out of the correct loopz.

When it comes to user friendliness, Loopz is quite simple to come to grasps with. Selecting various game alternatives on the main menu can easily be carried out by waving your hand through the top loopz, then another wave through the lower loopz to verify which one you would like to try.

Loopz' motion sensors analyze the actions to ensure if a sequence is carried out correctly. The action gets quicker as the game advances. If you miss three times then you are out of the game. The game includes a system to determine your overall performance depending on your speed and the degree of difficulty you are playing. Loopz incorporates 7 distinct games which may be enjoyed by yourself, or played competitively with your family and friends.

The system comes almost ready to be used, and the only thing you have to do would be to place the 2 stands beneath the rings to make sure that it will not fall down. The 2 music games, 2 reflex games and 3 memory games packed into the package means Loopz can appeal to a variety of target audience from one to four players.

Loopz games can in fact be customized for a number of age ranges and skills. It doesn't matter how competent you may be at rhythm and just how fast your reflexes could be, you will have plenty of fun trying to duplicate the patterns of lights and sounds, or maybe attempt to remember a pattern as it grows to become increasingly more complicated.

The additional advantage with Loopz is the fact that it arrives with a scoring system which will grant the players silver, gold and platinum medals. Regardless of whether you intend to keep track of your own best ratings to improve your performance, or perhaps if you're attempting to play for boasting privileges, Loopz could keep a watch on the time and levels which you have achieved to help you focus on having a great time.

Small children of all ages will likely be captivated by the music and colorful lights from the Loopz game. Even though it is suited to children ages 7 years and above, the truth is that all kids and even adults are certain to get hooked to this game.

Mattel's Loopz games are reasonably sold at retailers across the country. You can also elect to keep up with the latest Loopz news and buzz on social websites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Super innovative and just entertaining, Loopz game is among the top 2010 Christmas toys that will deliver countless hours of fun and memory training for your children together with your entire family this holiday season, or anytime of the year for that matter.

How to Make a Pizza - Lesson

!±8± How to Make a Pizza - Lesson

Homemade Pizza

Pizza would have to rank as one of the world's most popular and celebrated foods. Particularly in the west where there is a large emphasis on fast and convenient food. Pizza originated as part of Italian cuisine and its popularity comes from the vast variety of styles and flavors that can be made plus the simplicity and relatively cheap price.

Once you have mastered how to make the pizza base then the topping is up to you and you can top your pizza with whatever want and like. The only constants in practically all pizzas are the tomato paste, and to a lesser extent - cheese. Everything else is up to you. Now the great thing about making pizza is that all the ingredients can be sourced from any supermarket or medium to large food store. Let's start by making a trip to our local supermarket to procure the necessary ingredients. Making pizza is a two stage process. First we must make the base or crust, then ad the topping of our choice on top of the crust. Now the crust in our homemade pizza is made from just 5 ingredients. Flour, yeast, water, salt, and sugar although salt is not essential. Ingredients to get at the local supermarket. Firstly we need yeast. We are after dry yeast, the same as we use to make bread. Boxed yeast generally comes with 5 small sealed sachets for easy use. Next we need flour. For the amount of pizzas you intend to make a 1kg bag of plain flour is ideal. Next we need salt and sugar.

Now we can move on to the ingredients to make the topping. First we need the tomato paste. At any supermarket there is always a large variety of any one food item so it's up to you and your budget to determine what brand to buy. Next we need a small bottle of oregano. I'd like to stress that what ingredients you'd like on your pizza are completely up to you and the ingredients we use in this article are only used as a guide. Next we choose some meat such as ham or bacon. Next is the cheese. To keep a bit of variety, consider some spinach or other vegetables.

Now we have all our ingredients, it's time to start making the pizza. First we will start with the crust. After cleaning and clearing a suitable work space we need a large bowl and measuring jug or cup. First, you remove 1 sachet of dry yeast from the box. Next put approximately 150ml of hot water into the measuring glass. Next put 1 tablespoon of sugar into the hot water and mix, making sure all the sugar dissolves in the water. Next fill the measuring cup with approx 350ml of cold water. This leaves the sugary water slightly warm in temperature. Next pour one sachet of yeast into the measuring cup. The yeast will react and 'eat' the sugar and a luke warm water temperature is ideal for the yeast to behave in this way. If the water is too hot or too cold the yeast will not react properly with the water and the dough will not develop properly.

After pouring the dry yeast into the measuring cup we stir the contents then let the mixture sit for a while whilst the yeast reacts with the sugar solution. Whilst this reaction is taking place we can move on to other ingredient preparations. In this case if you plan to use spinach or other vegetable, soak them in water for a short while to bring back some of the moisture and freshness lost whilst it was bagged and sitting on the supermarket shelf. Simply soak the spinach in a small glass filled with water. You can do this to any vegetable you plan to use that appears old and dry to bring back some of it's freshness.

To make pizza crust, first pour the entire 1 kg bag of flour into a large bowl. A 1kg bag of flour will make enough pizza crust for about 10 pizzas. So whatever pizza dough you have left over will be ok to keep for 1 or 2 days before using. Next add approximately 1 tablespoon of salt. Next add the yeast and sugar mixture into the flour and mix thoroughly. Much the same way you would knead bread dough. After kneading for 5 or so minutes place the crust dough back in the bowl and let sit for a few minutes while you prepare the other ingredients. First prepare the olives, draining away the liquid then slicing them up into small pieces. Leftover olives that we are not going to use can be put in an air tight bag and placed in the fridge for later use. To do the chopping and dicing of food items for the pizza topping you need a good chopping knife and clean chopping board. During this time you can turn on your oven so it will be at the optimum temperature by the time the pizza is ready to be baked.

Set your oven temperature at 350 degrees Celsius. Next chop up any vegetables you are going to use. Next, cut up any meat you are going to use. Next, prepare the tomato paste. Now it's time to prepare the crust. To stop the crust dough from sticking to your working surface, sprinkle some flour on the surface. Then break off a piece of dough, large enough to make the crust for 1 pizza. If you want your pizza crust thin then you won't need as much dough than if you want the crust thick. Experience will be your best guide as to the right amount of dough you'll need to make the size pizza you intend to make. Next, flatten out the piece of dough with a rolling pin to the size of your pan base. Next, place the dough in the pan base making sure it completely covers the bottom of the pan. Cut off excess dough with a rolling cutting knife or any other knife that will do the trick. The first topping is to spread tomato paste over the crust. Next place all other ingredients on the tomato paste. Then place in the oven for a period of 10 minutes or so. Cut into pieces with a rolling cutting knife and enjoy.

Fisher-Price Little People Toy Play Sets For Fun and Collecting

!±8± Fisher-Price Little People Toy Play Sets For Fun and Collecting

Fisher-Price Little People have been entertaining young children for over 50 years. These charming little playthings are some of the most well-recognized toys ever created. What started as a peg shaped set of a few characters has evolved into an empire of Little People characters and accessories. The older pieces and sets are now collector's items and the recent versions are more popular with children than ever.

The first Little People figures were introduced in 1959 with a Safety School bus that included six peg shaped children that could be removed, and a driver that remained inside, and who's head moved as the bus was pushed or pulled. From 1959 until 1990 Fisher-Price continued to make the peg shaped Little People characters with various improvements in design and materials. These are called the "Original Little People" by collectors. The first complete play set was the Play Family Barn, which began selling in 1968. The barn doors made a moo sound when opened and the farm and family figures could be stored inside. It was an instant hit and a wide range of play sets followed.

After 1990 the Little People line of toys went through a few transformations leading up to today's characters. In 1991 Chunky Little People, or Jumbo Little People as collectors call them, appeared in toy stores to address the need for safer children's toys. They were wider than the originals and had more facial details. Then in 1997 articulated Little People were introduced with moving arms and legs instead of the previous peg bodies. These had even more details such as molded hair, and extra vibrant colors. And in 2000 electronic sounds and lights were added to some sets.

The Fisher-Price Little People toys available today look very different from their ancestors. Some of the animals have fur to simulate real animal textures. There are musical and talking accessories, lights, and interlocking pieces. Many of the same original play sets are still entertaining the children of today, but with modern enhancements and character roles. For example the Play Family Farm and Play Family House are favorites with toddlers and pre-school children today much the same as they were generations ago. Now there are dozens of packaged Little People sets that coordinate together and encourage creativity and imaginative role play in young children.
